The short answer

A 6 ft capped composite privacy fence costs about $36–$46 per foot installed — roughly $5,400–$6,900 for a 150 ft back yard before gates. The product tier moves it most: uncapped boards start lower, multi-tonal capped boards reach $58. Set your own length, tier, height and layout below.

Every combination the calculator prices, as text. Figures are installed per linear foot for the fence alone on flat ground at national-average labour; gates and tear-out are separate. Each cell opens the calculator set to that fence.

How the estimate is built

  • Tier sets the base range — the same uncapped, capped and multi-tonal ranges the composite cost guide publishes, from one dataset. They describe a solid 6 ft privacy fence.
  • Height scales it. An 8 ft fence costs about 30% more than 6 ft; a 4 ft one about 20% less, using the same height steps as every calculator on the site.
  • Layout is a premium over solid vertical boards. Horizontal boards add 5–15% for the extra framing; a lattice top 5–10%. The ordering is reliable; the exact percentage is modelled.
  • Installation quality is not an input, and it matters more with composite than most materials: boards expand in heat, and a crew used to fitting wood tight leaves no room for it. Ask about expansion gaps before you sign.

Local rules vary. Six feet is the common back-yard limit and front yards are often capped at three or four. Check your local rules before pricing an 8 ft fence — fence rules and height limits.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the cost of a composite fence?
Linear feet × a per-foot rate for your tier and height, plus a layout premium and gates per unit. 6 ft capped is about $36–$46/ft, so 150 ft is roughly $5,400–$6,900.
How much does a composite fence cost per linear foot?
At 6 ft: uncapped $28–$36, capped $36–$46, multi-tonal $44–$58 per foot installed.
How much does 200 feet of composite fence cost?
Roughly $7,200–$9,200 for 200 ft of 6 ft capped composite, before gates.
Is composite fencing more expensive than vinyl?
Usually — capped composite is about $36–$46/ft against $28–$50 for white vinyl. See vinyl vs composite.
Is uncapped composite fencing worth it?
Rarely — uncapped boards fade and stain, and still cost more than vinyl. If composite is worth buying, buy capped.
