Who we are
FenceLevel is an independent resource that helps homeowners plan a fence — choosing a material, pricing it honestly, understanding the rules that apply, and hiring someone competent — before they talk to a salesperson.
The name is the promise. A fence has to be on the level, and so does advice about one. Almost none of it is: the fencing internet is written by people who profit from your answer.
Why independence is the whole product
Search for almost any fencing question and you'll land on a contractor selling installs, a manufacturer selling product, an affiliate site selling collars, or a lead broker selling your contact details. Each has a stake in one particular answer, and it shows in what they leave out.
We're none of those. We don't install fences, don't sell materials, and don't take commissions on which material you choose. That's why our guides can tell you when a material is the wrong choice, why our quote tool gives you context instead of steering you to a “partner,” and why we can say plainly that invisible fences are roughly 70% effective and don't keep anything out.
How we make money
We may earn revenue from advertising, and in the dog-containment section specifically we may use clearly-disclosed affiliate links. Where we do, the rule is fixed and written down: the analysis is produced first and published unchanged — including when the honest conclusion is the cheap option with no subscription, which earns us nothing.
Our rules pages, our tools, and our quote checker carry no affiliate links at all. Those are the surfaces that have to stay clean for any of the rest to be worth reading. The full policy is on the methodology page.
What we're not
We're not contractors, surveyors, code officials, attorneys, or veterinarians. Our cost figures are planning estimates rather than quotes; our guidance on fence rules is orientation rather than legal advice; and anything touching pool barriers, property boundaries, or a dog's welfare should be confirmed with the appropriate professional. We try to be explicit about that on every page rather than burying it here.
